Lofoten: Winter

Our adventure begins at the gateway to the Arctic! Specifically, in the city of Tromsø, located above the Arctic Circle! We will spend our first night here to recover from the journey and enjoy a morning stroll through this Norwegian town.

Let’s start our morning at a leisurely pace with breakfast by the seaside, listening to the gulls. We’ll hop into our cars and head off on our adventure to explore the most remote corners of the north. Our stop for the next two days will be the island of Senja — the second largest in Norway.

The island is known as "Norway in Miniature" for good reason, as it packs all the natural wonders of the entire country into one place!

Continuing our journey west, today we will reach the first islands of the Lofoten archipelago.

Along the way, we will encounter unique northern landscapes and viewpoints in the fjords.

There's no way we'll visit Norway and skip experiencing the daily life of the northerners — that's just not us! Today we'll explore a fully reconstructed 83-meter-long Viking chieftain's house.

After that, we'll head to Unstad Beach, home to the world's northernmost surfing school. And we'll also visit a one-of-a-kind glassblowing workshop where the symbol of the islands was created — the Lofotr!

Now we're moving on — heading all the way to the western edge of the Lofoten Islands to see and feel firsthand the coziness of the fishing villages with their iconic red cabins — the rorbuer.

The final stop on today's adventure, and the westernmost settlement in Lofoten, is a village famous for its dried fish and its strikingly concise name — Å.

Time to stretch our legs! Today we'll hike up Mount Ruten. The views from the summit are absolutely breathtaking — especially when it comes to Kvalvika Beach with its turquoise water crashing against white sand between massive cliffs rising straight out of the ocean. And we'll definitely make our way down there!

And finally, we've got one more peak to bag. With a modest height of just 448 meters, Reinebringen more than makes up for it with an iconic view from the summit. And we can reach the top via a trail laid out at the invitation of the Norwegian government by none other than the legendary Himalayan Sherpas!

It's time for us to head back home — but on the way, while passing through Tromsø, we'll stop by Henningsvær and itsworld-famous football field nestled among the rocks.
